REMEMBERING TOMIE on September 14, 2020

Tomie taught art at Newton College of the Sacred Heart in Newton, MA, from 1962 until 1966. After Newton, he remained friendly with several of his students, many of whom had taken his classes for all four years.

He was invited to attend a reunion not too many years ago at the encouragement of his former student, Judy. She arranged to pick him up in New London and take him to the reunion. She brought him back to New London on Sunday after the reunion was over.

Some days later, Tomie became sick. He was known for burning the candles at both ends, in work and at play, and most likely did exactly that during the reunion weekend, and he was now sick because of it.

During the next conversation with Judy, Tomie told her that he had been sick. I got on the phone and told her and Tomie that Tomie was no longer allowed to play with Judy. (Bob)
