REMEMBERING TOMIE on September 4, 2020

I was working on the computer yesterday morning and, out of the corner of my eye, I noticed something black that was moving. The something was a small black bear poking around in the courtyard between the house and the barn. I called the police and the officer who came explained there has been a bear, possibly one-year-old, wandering around an area of New London. It’s been named “Dennis the Menace.” I am relieved that I am not walking five dogs during the day and night.

The image. Tomie was asked to create an illustration celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Smithsonian’s Resident Associate Program and celebrating RAP’s Young Associate and Family activities.

The birthday cake image is topped by the Smithsonian Castle and features children engaged in RAP’s family events. Tomie attended the birthday party and presented a program in November, 1990. (Bob)
